Whenever I come across a post someone made on Facebook, or made a reference to a diamond company, I always go to the website and look up their conflict minerals policy.

And if I don’t find anything, I always send an email asking about it.

I mean, it’s not like I’m going to be able to DO anything about it, I just kind of figure I like stirring things up a bit with companies like this. They certainly post a ton of information on the Four C’s, but nothing about the Kimberley Process (which, I’ll admit, has a few loopholes) or their company’s ethical/moral background.

Tell me, do most diamond companies even care about where their diamonds come from?

tattoos, coffee, and a little bit of Kirk Douglas

I have three planned.

  1. Western dragon tattoo, to be commissioned, for my back/shoulder blade.
  2. Blood diamond tattoo (see diamond poster below somewhere), perhaps on the underside of my right wrist.
  3. Monoceros constellation tattoo, not sure where.

Umm…umm…I could always do some sort of poem tattoo. I’d probably pick a line from “Annabel Lee” in honor of my sister, who was named after that poem.

Or maybe I’d get “galaslaeg” tattooed on me. In elvish script.

Or maybe I’d GET ALL THE TATTOOS!

I still think getting an elephant tattoo on my butt is a superb idea. It gets wrinkly as you get older! Who says tattoos look bad when you get old? Mine gets more life-like!

So many cool looking tattoos, I want them all.

*salivates*

I didn’t care much for the instant Starbucks coffee until I added brown sugar. Ooooo I can feel the energy already. If I keep drinking it in this manner, I will either turn my teeth black, or lose my teeth entirely, or perhaps both in that order.

Also, I am supremely enjoying watching Kirk Douglas shake it whilst singing sailor songs while I watch “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”. I am in love with this movie now.

He captured my heart when I first saw “Spartacus”. Damn that fine man.

The value of a diamond should never be worth more than the value of a human’s life…

I think I’ve found another tattoo I want. This film was the one that really opened my eyes to such things like conflict minerals, and for that I’ll always be eternally grateful.

London

“London” by James Newton Howard from the film, Blood Diamond

So many emotions right now.

"The natural resources of a country are the sovereign property of its people. They are not ours to steal, or exploit in the name of our comfort, our corporations, or our consumerism. The third world is not a world apart, and the witness you will hear today speaks on its behalf. Let us hear the voice of that world, let us learn from that voice, and let us ignore it…no more. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Solomon Vandy."
