My favorite emu and I hung out again today, and we’re kind of short on emu food…So I brought him a piece of melon and handfuls of cat food. He HATED the melon. Actually spit it out and shook his head, like he was really disgusted. It was so cute. But he ate the cat food without much thought, but I’m wondering if it’s good for them or not?
So what do you recommend feeding an emu that’s not yours but lives next door to you?
What did I get myself into?!
Long story short — I was absolutely shocked that the animals that belong to my landlord were either dead/dying/exhausted from the heat, so while I was filling up water dishes for the caged rabbits/ducks/various other fowl, I saved this guy. He can’t walk, but he was stuck in a cage with three other dead roosters, and this poor little guy was surrounded by the bodies. So I confiscated him!
He likes to nibble on my hair. I’m giving him over to a farm animal rescue place…as soon as they get back to me. Anyone know what breed of rooster this is?
Also animal control was called again, this time by my mom, but she had to leave a message. They didn’t check out the place after I left them a message (I’ve been watching for them!), so I hope they pay more attention this time.

Believe it or not, I’ve actually designed some of these for fun when I was in high school. It went from a small songbird on up to a great-horned owl. I wanted to see how, logistically, it could be done. Oh, and they were alarm clocks, too. :D
