Seems like pretty much all the ‘activists’ I know completely forgot about “covering the night” on 4/20.

Feel bad for saying this, but I kind of expected this to happen…

Personally, I knew that some child rebel soldier shit was going down in some parts of Africa before watching the video; however, I did end up learning more after watching that 30 minute clip. The thing that kind of annoyed me was that many people I know (and I assume many people that watched the video) acted as if they knew everything about the issue, without doing further research. I think it’s a good cause, but this just proved how trends can fade in the Western world.

You’d be lying to me if you said that most of the people you knew are still just as pumped for tonight as they were right after watching the video. I mean, when people were acting as if they were social activists, I thought it was great, as long as they would follow through with what they’re claiming to be

I’m no better than you folks, I’m just saying that I never claimed to know it all off a short film; and I’m saying that it’s kinda sad how quickly people in this day and age can forget about something they seemed to have strongly supported.

* just an opinion.

^ THIS RIGHT HERE. At least, the feelings on the activists. I don’t support the cause, but I agree with the above when it comes to trends in the Western world.

The White Savior Industrial Complex by Teju Cole [The Atlantic]

If Americans want to care about Africa, maybe they should consider evaluating American foreign policy, which they already play a direct role in through elections, before they impose themselves on Africa itself.

There’s no point in quoting the entire piece, just read it.

Since Uganda is getting a lot of interest on the internet right now, I figured it was important to try to present an alternative source of information. Invisible Children is, as many already know, a highly problematic organization, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying to help. Here are some other sources of information, statistics, and ways to donate/help.
