A Princess - Javier Navarrete
Most people come out of childhood willing to leave it behind and disregard the times they had. I think of my childhood as something meaningful, memorable, special, and full of imagination. Pan’s Labyrinth is one of those films that takes me back to the moments in my life when I would sit outside under my parents’ apple trees for hours. I took the name fairy rings (ring of mushrooms in the grass) literally and would wander around with a rock pendant my uncle gave me and tried to look through the hole and see the fairies that he said he saw when he was a boy. This song just reminds me of the feelings we have of spinning in place as the world passes us by. We wish for nothing more than the impossible and the fantastical, but we know that someday we will grow up and leave our childhood behind. I know that I will need to finally enter the real adult world one day, but I also know that I will always hum to myself and imagine spinning in place as a Princess in a sunlit garden.
